Portion Road Visioning Update
Dec 01, 2005
In the September newsletter, we reported in detail on
the status of the Portion Road project. At that time
our biggest concern was that the Suffolk County DPW was
insisting that a full widening to 5 lanes was required
between Hawkins Avenue and Cenacle Road-Smith Road. The
need for the extensive widening was being caused by
capacity concerns at the Patchogue-Holbrook Road/Hans
Boulevard intersection. Read

Access Management
The
final plans for Portion Road are still being developed

The Proposed “High-Point Town Center” on Portion

As

Roadside Litter in our Community
Apr 01, 2005
Over the last several months we have been discussing
the various ways Portion Road will be improved to make
our community better. One issue that has been
frustrating many of us as we have looked closely at the
features of the existing road is the large amount of
litter along Portion Road and the other roads in the
community. The new Portion Road will have nice trees,
sidewalks, curbs and other amenities, but if the litter
problem persists, it will not be enjoyable to walk or
bike along the road, and even the car trips down the
road will be disappointing.Read

Jan 01, 2005
Last month (see below) we reported on the results of

much more than just focus on the width of the roadway
and the number of lanes that will be built.

The formal Visioning Meetings that were held in October
have concluded and it is now apparent that the Portion
Road project will not be a typical County widening
project. What started out as a major widening to five
lanes with full shoulders, has now been scaled back
significantly. Read
